420 Smoke Break: Crime Bites Back

Not sure how we missed this in the first go-round when he was initally arrested, but according to reports the actor who played McGruff the Crime Dog was sentenced to 16 years in jail. You may remember the crime fighting canine who famously “Took a Bite Out Of Crime” in 80’s & 90’s TV commercials.

It looks like crime bit back. Maybe it was the kibble with which he was paid but somehow along the way he went to the bark side, er dark side … and ended up charged with some really odd and interesting crimes. He was busted with something like 1,000 cannabis plants, a grenade launcher and over 9,000 rounds of ammo.

It also seems that because of the particular crimes/giant arsenal of weapons including a grenade launcher…  the judge didn’t think he was anywhere near as innocent as his mascot counterpart.

“[John] Morales insisted during the sentencing hearing that he was nonviolent, but U.S. District Judge Vanessa Gilmore said, “Everything I read about you makes you seem like a scary person.”

Where the hell do you even get a grenade launcher? All we have are empty beer cans and they’re not that effective.
